I recently took part in the TELUS Digital & Contentful Hackathon, to create a blog or article-style functionality, using Contentful. The opportunity was massive, as we identified many functional improvements, such as better security, SEO and maintenance, as well as design and content upload. There were many pain points we wanted to address along the way such as:
Accessibility & alternative text issues
Unable to change the labels or categories
Responsive image issues & not TELUS Design System compliant
30 minutes to upload one blog post
As the designer, I worked closely with our Content Manager and two Developers, to create the responsive and accessible site. In order to make it more suitable to our business requirements, I decided to create another community component for the TELUS Design System, in the form of a preview card. The preview cards are clickable responsive cards that display a title, date, author, tag and relevant image. Mandatory fields are body and image. The result is a brand new website that has resolved all of its business issues, better performance, best practices, and SEO.
Best of all, we came 2nd in the Hackathon and won ourselves an Oculus Go!
